This quote from my friend, Fei, came to mind immediately when I saw this picture. I just love this candid shot by Harrison- Taken beside Shinkong Mitsukoshi in the Hsinyi District, it encapsulates the city that I love, succinctly. 

Of little alleys, good food, and the best memories.

A long, overdue post from my Taipei trip at the end of Nov 2011. It is a city which I love for so many different reasons-
1) Being able to wander around little, nondescript alleys, and chancing upon the best food, and interesting, little knick knacks
2) Chef- friends which I've made from my internship at Holiday Inn, back in 2009, means having the good fortune to try the best gourmet offers around. Gorgeous appetiser from La Festa, Grand Victoria Hotel
3) Street musicians bringing life to the streets; and especially that kick ass, girl drummer there.
4) Hsinyi District, where Taipei 101 is, (Metro Station: Taipei City Hall) - is just about my favourite place to go to;
5) Jiufen (九分), a small town located just outside of Taipei is a must go; each time I'm in the city as my Mom would never fail to ask me to get the traditional Taiwanese goodies found there.
6) Honest to goodness, authentic Korean food. You know it's good, when 90% of the patrons are all speaking in their native language. (It's not just about Taiwanese food, in Taiwan)
7) Eslite Bookstore- An entire building full of books, magazines, quirky appliances and cafes. What more can I say?
8) The best crepes you can find is at Shida Night Market (師大夜市) Sweet or savoury, it don't matter. They all taste so good!
9) Being able to make a trip to the other end of the island (Kaoshiung) and be back in Taipei by midnight; the High Speed Rail (HSR) is just the most convenient!


The sense of familiarity and the warmth which I've felt, is something which I find hard to forget. Taipei, I'd be back!

Of good cafes, and good company.

Long, long, long awaited Melbourne post; it is definitely a city which I would love to go back to.

1. First meal in Melbourne, we had really good, beef Pho at Chinatown
2. One of the best, Soy Chai I've had, so much so that my friend, Kim, is now a convert. If you're in Melbourne, do head down to The Journal @ 253 Flinders Lane 
3. The start of a 5/6 hours drive to the Great Ocean Road, to see the 12, now 11, Apostles
4. The gorgeous view of the cotton clouds and the horizon, where the sky meets the ocean is something which I'd never forget;
5. A little rest stop at the Devil's Elbow; definitely cool to be able to chat with a burly Harley rider.
6. I think everyone in the car heaved a sigh of a relieve when we finally, saw the Apostles. Still, the view, is definitely worth it. (But would I do the road trip again? Probably not.)
7. What's better than a red velvet/salted caramel/carrot cake cupcakes? MINI-sized ones, apparently!
8. Inspirational quotes stuck on bright yellow potted plants, sitting side, by side, outside the cafe? This is a preview of what is to come inside the cafe. If you happen to be in the area, Manchester Press is definitely a great place to pop by and have a chat with your friends. 9. But the walls along Hosier Lane are sprayed with graffiti and street art; Some of them are just artists' signatures, some have got political meanings; and some (which are my favourites), have got a deeper meaning to them.

10. Our last day in Melbourne should end off with a hearty breakfast, of course, no less. Headed to one of my favourite haunts in the city, Degraves Street, to have a good meal of Smoked Salmon w/ Poached Eggs on Toast. The alley is lined with cafes serving good food and coffee, and as you can imagine, it is a fantastic place to people watch. 

As you can imagine, Melbourne is a great place to take street style photography, and I have some, lined up for the next post! Won't be long, I promise! xx

Dunhua N. Road.

Been travelling around for the past two weeks and I've basically been neglecting this spot. Went to Melbourne right after my finals and now I'm finally back in the Northern Hemisphere. First stop, Taipei, Taiwan. Haven't seen H in about... 10 months. The feeling when I surprised him on his birthday is just, indescribable. Will be back in SG this Sunday. Will update more then. For now, I'll be posting random snapshots, and a little chunks of words to go with. xx
